Don't K&T

I'm sitting in the Denver airport, a full day later than I was scheduled to leave. Jen and Jacob got married this weekend, and their wedding was one of the best things that's happened this year. After an interesting trip out to CO Springs, which involved tire troubles, massive turbulence, and (minor) flight delays, it was good to arrive and see Carolyn, who was waiting at the hotel. It's hard to believe that I haven't seen her in more than a year. I was worried that things would be a bit strained, because absence can make the heart grow fonder, forgetful, or resentful. As neither of us had cars, we went to dinner at the hotel restaurant and talked about life post-VU over burgers and beer. Both of which I desperately needed. The rest of the VU girls were at the wedding run-through and rehearsal dinner, so when they finally got back to the hotel, it was well after 10 pm, and everyone was exhausted. On my way back to my hotel room, I ran into Jen and her family, the Nebraska girls, and Jacob, which got everyone a bit hyper. Jen was a bit stressed, as I anticipated, so I didn't prolong the encounter. The NE kids were fantastic, as they were when I visited in March, and it was fun to meet Megan and Katherine, who I had missed during my brief time in Omaha.

Saturday was full of excitement, which ranged from a manicure (that was a first) to seeing Rachel and Kyle, to the surprise of getting a corsage from Jen's mother for being a reception decorator! After the ceremony, the Nebraska girls and I rushed over to the Air Force Base. We really were rushing, since apparently none of us can follow directions very well. It took us well over a half-hour to get to the entrance, and everyone was pretty much freaking out about the time. By the time we got to the bowling alley to decorate, it was after 5 pm, and the reception was scheduled to begin at 6. Thank heavens that Cooper and Bethanny knew what they were doing, because I would have been so helpless without their direction. I helped by setting up the punch bowl and cups, wrapping tulle and decorative arrangements, and placing placemats. So that was my contribution to the wedding day.

Props to Jake and Jen for their brilliant idea to have the second part of the reception in a bowling alley--it kept everyone entertained. Lane Four rocked the alley--there were five of us (Rachel and Kyle, Carolyn, Jon-whom-I'd-just-met, and myself), and we bowled the crap out of the alley. We totalled at least 7 strikes, 7 spares, and tons of dancing. Plus, Kyle gave us all nicknames, based on our performances. Rachel was "Girlfriend," obviously; Carolyn was "Queen of Strikes;" Jon was "Jonnycakes;" and I was the horrible, horrible "Spare Parts" because I got something like 5 spares (and a lot of close calls) in the first game.

I'll probably have to update later about the rest of the weekend, since I'm trying to figure out if my flight has changed gates. So if anyone's reading this, sorry for the suspense.

The wedding itself was great.
